Joe's love for Pip...

"Pip, dear old chap, life is made of ever so many partings welded together, and as I may say, one man's a blacksmith, one's a whitesmith and one's a goldsmith, and one's a coppersmith. Diwisioins among such must come, and must be met as they come.'" (Pg. 223)

Many ask themselves what that means or what the significance is or greatness is in that quote; it may be different to many other people but really if you think about it, it is talking about love and family. Joe is talking to Pip about how Pip has a new home in London and how he is still working at the forge as a blacksmith where Pip could have been if he hadn’t left. Pip left his family for money, thinking that it would make him have a better life and that it would take him somewhere, even though he was always loved when he was at home with Joe, Mrs. Gargery and Biddy and he just never realized it. When Pip head off for London, he leaves behind something very important—his family’s love, and that is what Joe is trying to tell Pip.

There is another part of quote that may not be so noticeable; Joe is saying that even though Pip really left for the wrong reason and that he should still remember his family’s love for him, Joe is trying to tell him that at some point in time you have to leave the ones that love you so dearly and move on with your life and do what you think is best for yourself.

That is what Joe is trying to get across with saying “one man’s a blacksmith, ones’ a whitesmith and one’s a goldsmith, and one’s a coppersmith…” he is showing Pip that everyone may be different and that Pip had left to become someone else but that even though he is away from his family he should always remember their love for him and he should always love them too.

Wemmick's Two Different Sides

Wemmick-a man who has to be very serious all the time at work even though he really wishes that he could open up and just be himself. This man, Wemmick, see’s people every day who loose their cases and sometimes even walk away with some of their most important valuables to them because that was the only way that they could pay Wemmick and Jaggers. Wemmick is a very serious man at work because he is afraid that if he would to just be himself he could lose his job or have something bad happen; he knows that Jaggers is a man of work and really nothing else. Wemmick also knows that Jaggers would not agree or put up with someone who was not serious about his work, that is the reason Wemmick is always serious when he is talking and doing work.

But, that is not the real Wemmick. When he gets to his home which he calls a castle--because most likely is proud of what he owns, he opens up to Pip to show his real self. He takes Pip through his house and during that time shows Pip that really he is a man of kindness and not all work. Wemmick even takes care of the Aged One and even nods to him in the halls, that really shows Pip that he is almost putting on an act at work, which would be his serious side, but really he is nothing like he looks like he is… if we had to describe Wemmick in two words they would be—kind and loving.

Dickens is really trying to get a point across here, and that would be that everybody can be different when they are not around certain people. That, what Dicken’s was symbolizing there showed what Wemmick really is.

Pip's Innocence...

Pip lived a life of innocence; he doesn't really know that thet people down by the river are bad and that you have to tell someone where you are going before you actually go. He lives in a house with his sister, Mrs. Joe Gargery, who married Joe Gargery, the blacksmith. He never met his other family members so his older sister decided that she was going to raise the poor boy. Once she finds out that Pip was missing she goes on what they say as a "ram-page", and when she found Pip back at home she starts regretting ever raising him, telling him that he could have been in the graveyard with the other people in his family if it wasn't for her.
Mrs. Joe Gargery is a women of strickness and not much kindness or love. It is almos like she sticks to a routine every day. She cooks for the family for every meal, does what she has to do during the day and then feed them when they get home. When dinner is ready every night they all sit down and ear it together. Pip doesn't have a horribel life, he is probably luckier than some other people may be in the city. Although Joe is nice to him but his sister isn't, he still gets a bed to sleep in every night and foot to eat when he is hungry. Maybe it is not a life that many of us would perfer to live but for him, it is a ok life that seems to work out just fine for him.

Fall Leaves and Bare Branches~Samm

Bare branches

once full trees of many colors

green, yellow, orange, red

you could go on and on

Bare branches

the seasons changing from summer to fall

from fall to winter

the hot sun blazing

to the autumn trees swaying in the wind.

Bare Branches

they change to the leaves swaying
to just falling

now with piles on the ground

just the branches left bare

Bare Branches

There are now piles and piles of leaves

all around the ground

waiting for someone to jump right in

Bare Branches above

when I hear someone in the distance—

a little girl and her mom
they jump in the leaves together

make the leaves fly to the sky

then come back down.

That little girl may always

or never does this in the fall

but either way that memory will stay with her

for a long time…

Floating Down The River...-----Yay! I finally got my poem onto my blog... it's not set up right but now you can at least read it!

Standing by the river

All by my self…

With no one around me

I listen to the peaceful sounds

The birds crowing

The trees moving

And the water moving

Down the river…

I see a reflection of me

Then I see a stuffed bunny

Floating down the river

Maybe a little girls' or boys'

Dropped in and never able to see it again

Maybe it was special

I think of something special

My blanket

I don't know how it would feel

To loose something so special

I would be devastated

They must have been devastated

Loosing something you will never see again...

ROCK~Stream of Consciousness

Rocks, Boulders all over the place. Big, almost taller than me as I stand next to them. I hear a loud noise from above… the area that I am standing in is at the bottom of a canyon and I can hear something tumbling from above… then it is starting to get closer--I can make out what the noise is in my mind. It is more like a boom, roll, roll, and keeps on continuing. Suddenly I feel crumbs of dirt and tiny pieces of rock fall on my shoulders like gentle snow but then I look up and notice that it is about the way opposite of gentle snow… it is the boulders above starting to fall to the ground and I am trapped underneath them… me not knowing where to go I start to run, running, and running as far and as fast as I can out of the way of these huge falling rocks. I notice that there is a small earthquake that is hitting and that is what is making the rocks fall. I don’t' know what to do…. There is nothing around me to even keep me safe. It is almost like I was in the middle of the desert; when there is nothing around, but the only thing that changes is that I am in the middle of a canyon, lost and having no where to keep safe. Suddenly I see a small cave as I am running. I have no idea what could be in it but it decide to go seeing that that is about the only thing around that could keep me from getting killed. I go in; luckily there is nothing in there. I stay there until the earthquake is over and then I walk out. I see rocks all around me and decide that I want to get out of there as soon as I can. I start heading out the ways I came in but now I have to make it around all of the rocks… yes… I can finally see the cars, that shows that I will be able to live-- to be free out of this massive canyon that I have been trapped in.

Mountain~Stream of Consciousness

Mountains-- they are all around the world weather it may be in one of the hottest places ever or one of the coldest, but they are there. As I arrive at the Grand Tetons and my parents tell me to get out of the car because we were going to go to the top I was amazed. Just at the image that I could see. It was almost as I was looking at a postcard and I was just placed there by a magical fairy. Then when we get into the cable car to go to the top the word amazement goes away and now it is just a sight that can never be replaced- the word that had replaced it was" priceless". . Being there at the end of July the snow was still on the mountains and the water was flowing down them like a calm river. When we finally reach the top my jaw just drops open and I cannot make any words come out of my mouth. You cannot say anything about them… they are just too beautiful. The only thing someone could keep saying is "wow this is the most amazing view and sight I have ever seen" and they were right. It said that we were at the tallest point in the U.S. that anyone could hike or go up--over 8,000 feet in elevation… Then when we started to take a small hike, and we could not stop taking pictures. After we returned to the flat ground at the bottom I tell my mom and dad that this is one of the most beautiful places I have ever visited in my life. Mountains are just an amazing thing created by nature.

The Good Earth-Chapter 1

Wang Lung lives his life much differenlty than we live ours. Wang has to do everything for his old father and his self. He has to get him food and drinks everymorning, he has to feed and do everything for the crops, and lastly he cannot even take showers...." I have not washed my body all at once in the New Year...It is only one time..."Pg.5 That just shows how much Wang and his father really savor the water that they have so that they can use as much as they can on their crops.
That is not the only thing that is different with Wangs life compared to ours.. it is his wedding day. Although... in this period of time the husband nor wife are allowed to choose eachother. A family member, which in this case was the father picked the wife for Wang. He choose a slave Wang was going into the village for on this day... to get his new wife. Before he left home he who worked at one of the largest houses in the village... The House of Hwang. That was what grabed some money on the way out because he had invited some farmers, cousins, and an uncle over for the wedding celebration. When he was in town he felt that today was the day that was ok to spend money so he bought pork, beef, and a pond fish fo he celebration. Once he got the House of Hwang he was nervous but finally went in to ask the "Ancient Lady" for the girl... Once O-lan had come(his new wife) the "Ancient Lady" had sent them away quickly. They walkded in silence all the way home. Once there O-lan told him she would make the meal but not come out.
All this shows what the mode could be...comedy or romance. Comedy because Wang starts out his life like he "normaly" does, then it looks like it may go down hill a little with a wife who is very quiet. Then again it could be romance because his life starts out happy although he is poor he gets a wife which may make it bad or good.
Books like this can change all the time though... No one can really make a perdicament after reading one chapter, someone can always guess but you can not really know until you read a little farther...

Sail Forever...-stream of consciousness

As I stand on the beach with the waves crashing at my feet and the birds flying around me like graceful doves, I think of the last time I was at a beach. It was one of the very first places that my aunt, uncle, mom, and dad traveled together. I think of all the fun times we had together and the great vactations that we went on together when tears start to form in my eyes.... Suddenly I hear my mom call me in to go pack and I think of how the last time I was at that beach we sprinkled some of his ashes into the ocean to let him sail forever...

Comment to Minnie Foster going insane...

Minnie foster went insane... If you really think about, her canary was the only thing in her life that kept her getting up every day knowing that there was something to live for. Her bird would sing with her or even sing to her while she was sewing, baking, or what ever Minnie was doing. Then when her husband killed the bird it was like taking the blue out of the sky-- Minnie had no more freedom with that bird being gone. She felt that there was only one way to get her freedom back, and that was to kill her own husband. Minnie Foster had strangled her husband just like he had strangled the bird. She wanted to put her husband through the same death as the bird had gone through. That is why I clearly think that Minnie went insane... no bird means no freedom for Minnie Foster.
